Metal Braces
Metal braces are the most common type. They are made of high-grade stainless steel. Today's metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive. Wires are tied into these braces using assorted color ties. These ties will be replaced at each of your regular appointments. Patients may choose the colors.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) material. They are most popular with adult patients due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawbacks to ceramic brackets are that they are more fragile, and the elastic ties can discolor between orthodontic visits.
Self-Ligating Brackets
Self-ligating braces use a sliding door or clip to close the wires into the brackets. They have the advantage of lower friction of the wires in the brackets, These are usually used in more complicated orthodontic problems.
Invisalign®
The Invisalign system is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult and teen patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.
Carriere® Motion™ Appliance
The Carriere Motion appliance is used to correct bite problems. An appliance is placed on the upper teeth on both sides. There are hooks placed on the lower molars and a lower retainer is placed with them. Rubber bands are used to connect upper and lower hooks to fix the bite. This will usually last for 3 to 6 months, at which time the appliances will be removed and replaced with braces or invisalign.
